This AI Can Automatically Remove Watermarks From Photographs Like A Professional

#artificialintelligence

American technology firm Nvidia along with researchers from Aalto University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have published a paper outlining a new artificial intelligence (AI) system that can almost flawlessly retouch grainy or pixelated pictures. The software uses deep-learning to automatically remove noise and artifacts. What makes this system so unique is that it can teach itself to fix corrupted photos simply by looking at them. Previous deep learning work in image retouching was centered on training neural networks to restore images by comparing noisy and clear images. This new method, however, only requires two corrupted images to proceed with removing noise.

There is a new and apparently better way to fix grainy photos, and it uses AI. Artificial Intelligence, one must say, coupled with lots of computing power, but that's growing day after day. Artificial Intelligence and machine learning will never cease to surprise us, apparently. Each new day, there's some new announcement, covering different fields: AI can render 3D hair in real time, smell illnesses in human breath, assess infrastructure quality in Africa or help transform audio into music playing avatars. Now it can also help photographers get rid of noise in their photos.

AI Can Now Fix Your Grainy Photos by Only Looking at Grainy Photos - NVIDIA Developer News Center

What if you could take your photos that were originally taken in low light and automatically remove the noise and artifacts? Have grainy or pixelated images in your photo library and want to fix them? This deep learning-based approach has learned to fix photos by simply looking at examples of corrupted photos only. The work was developed by researchers from NVIDIA, Aalto University, and MIT, and is being presented at the International Conference on Machine Learning in Stockholm, Sweden this week. Recent deep learning work in the field has focused on training a neural network to restore images by showing example pairs of noisy and clean images.

NVIDIA AI scrubs noise and watermarks from digital images

#artificialintelligence

NVIDIA researchers are back with yet another digital image technology that pushes the limits of traditional image manipulation. Unlike Adobe's recently disclosed project, which involved a neural network trained to spot digitally altered images, NVIDIA's newest creation can scrub digital sensor noise and watermarks from digital images. Thanks to the artificial intelligence powering it, the feature is far more effective than existing denoising tools. Digital camera sensor noise, though not as severe as it once was, is still common from consumer-tier cameras, particularly smartphone cameras in low-light conditions. This is due to the small sensor size used in these cameras, making post-processing necessary to increase image quality.
