Modern consumers and modern government constituents are the same people. When they order something from Amazon or do their online banking, they increasingly expect those experiences to meet a higher standard of quality than they once did. The same holds true for their interactions with their local governments. In their eyes, if private companies offer advanced technology and convenient features, then logically, public institutions ought to do the same. Unfortunately, few city councils have anything that approaches the same budget as Amazon.

A Voice Controlled E-Commerce Web Application Machine Learning

Abstract-- Automatic voice-controlled systems have changed the way humans interact with a computer. Voice or speech recognition systems allow a user to make a hands-free request to the computer, which in turn processes the request and serves the user with appropriate responses. After years of research and developments in machine learning and artificial intelligence, today voice-controlled technologies have become more efficient and are widely applied in many domains to enable and improve human-tohuman andhuman-to-computer interactions. The state-of-the-art e-commerce applications with the help of web technologies offer interactive and user-friendly interfaces. However, there are some instances where people, especially with visual disabilities, are not able to fully experience the serviceability of such applications. A voice-controlled system embedded in a web application can enhance user experience and can provide voice as a means to control the functionality of e-commerce websites. In this paper, we propose a taxonomy of speech recognition systems (SRS) and present a voice-controlled commodity purchase e-commerce application using IBM Watson speech-to-text to demonstrate its usability. The prototype can be extended to other application scenarios such as government service kiosks and enable analytics of the converted text data for scenarios such as medical diagnosis at the clinics. In a world of rapidly advancing technology it's crucial to ensure companies and organizations are doing their best to make digital developments accessible to everyone. While browsing the internet, catching up on social media, or texting on mobile devices might seem like second nature to some, accessibility-related barriers prevent millions of people with disabilities from easily using basic forms of technology and, in some cases, even discourage them from going online. In 2012, Global Accessibility Awareness Day was launched to help highlight the need for increased digital accessibility. In recent years we've seen some amazing action taken -- from the creation of virtual marches, which give those with physical disabilities a place to protest online, to more advanced social media tools, like Facebook's face recognition and automatic alt-text tools, which help blind users and people with low vision better identify posts and people in photographs. But there's still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to disability inclusion.
