U.S. News

FILE - In this Dec. 8, 2015, the first Boeing 737 MAX airplane to roll off Boeing's assembly line in Renton, Wash. is shown parked before an employee-only rollout event. India's low-cost airline Spicejet plans to buy up to 205 next-generation Boeing planes worth $22 billion in a major deal to expand its domestic and international operations. A joint statement by the two companies Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, said the planes booked at the end of 2016 include 100 new Boeing 737 MAX 8s, 42 MAXs, 13 additional 737 MAXs as well as purchase rights for 50 additional planes.

China Eastern crash could set back Boeing's China recovery and return of MAX

The Japan Times

The deadly crash of a China Eastern Airlines 737-800 could set back Boeing's efforts to regain ground in the world's biggest aircraft market and deliver more than 140 of their 737 MAX jets already constructed for Chinese customers. The 737-800 that crashed on Monday does not have the equipment that led to 737 MAX crashes more than three years ago, but that may not make a difference to Chinese passengers and a national regulator known for scrupulous safety requirements. China Eastern said the cause of the crash was under investigation. Such accidents typically involve multiple factors, and experts warned it was far too early to draw any conclusions on the potential causes, especially in light of the scarce information available. China was the first country to ground the 737 MAX after fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia more than three years ago, and it is the only major market where the MAX has not resumed commercial flights.

How Much Do Boeing Airplanes Cost To Make?

International Business Times

This article was originally published by the Motley Fool. Boeing (NYSE:BA) is well known for its hugely popular 737, as well as its 747, first introduced in 1970, and its 787 Dreamliner. But there's also a new, 400-seat aircraft -- the 777X -- that's still on the drawing board, and it's predicted to become the biggest-selling airplane in the market after its first delivery in 2020. Investors cheer when Boeing beats out rival Airbus for lucrative contracts as it generates more revenue and higher profits. At the Paris Air Show just last month, Boeing crushed Airbus by announcing commitments for 437 new airplanes compared to only 182 for its rival.

ALC is an aircraft leasing company based in Los Angeles, with customers worldwide. The company said it already has lease agreements in place with seven different airlines for 737-8 MAX aircraft starting in the fourth quarter of 2017. It also said it has the largest backlog of any Boeing customer, with 180 planes.

Boeing's spacesuit is light, cool and flexible

Virgin isn't the only company determined to make conventional spacesuits seem like ungainly beasts. Boeing has unveiled the spacesuit it wants to use for people aboard its Starliner CST-100 vessels, and they promise to be far more livable than the clunky spacewear you've seen before. It's roughly 40 percent lighter than previous suits, with layers that should keep astronauts cooler than usual. Wearers also won't feel quite so trapped or claustrophobic -- zippers help them transition from sitting to standing, and there's a wide plastic visor that should improve peripheral vision. The suit is also designed for the nature of a cutting-edge cockpit.
