Amazon's AWS acquires cloud-based IDE startup Cloud9

ZDNet

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is acquiring Cloud9, a start-up that offers a cloud-based integrated development environment (IDE) for building web and mobile applications, Cloud9 announced on its blog on Thursday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cloud9 cofounder and CEO Ruben Daniels wrote that the company's investors and nearly half a million users can still depend on it for now: "It's still business as usual--we'll continue to work with our Ace Open Source community and to provide our innovative services to you and our hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide." The company offers a free version of its platform, as well as three premium editions. By fully integrating the IDE into its services, AWS could offer a more appealing tool for existing AWS customers that are currently using other IDEs like Microsoft's Visual Studio.
